Rammanohar Lohia was great person who dedicated his entire life to the freedom struggle of India as a noted socialist and Indian freedom fighter.
A man of rare scholarship and independent thought he worked hard to create a society which would ensure justice to the poor, the backward and women. Though Lohia had a good affinity towards Jawaharlal Nehru but he disputed with him on many political issues.
Family details of Rammanohar Lohia
Lohia was born on 23rd march 1910 in the village of Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name was Hira Lal who was a nationalist, teacher and chanda. His mother died when he was at young age. Rammanohar Lohia completed his graduation in B.A from Calcutta University in the year 1929. He also completed his PhD from Berlin University Germany, in 1932.
Lohia’s contribution as a nationalist leader
His first contribution as a nationalist leader was organizing a ‘Hartal’ on Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s death. In 1928, Rammanohar Lohia joined protests against the Simon commission. He was a great socialist with fearless and dynamic personality.
Before independence Lohia went to prison for several times only for the sake of people. He attended League of Nations in Geneva and maharaja of Bikaner. He protested the moves of maharaja of Bikaner from the visitor gallery as he supported the British government.
Lohia formed the association of European Indians and became the secretary of that club. He concentrated more in expanding Indian nationalism to the other parts of the world. Later on he joined the Indian national congress. Lohia was attracted with the socialistic culture as soon as he joined the Indian national congress. Lohia played a vital role in founding the congress socialist party in the year 1934.
Notable incidence of Lohia
Lohia was an active participant of many political works. He organized the association of European Industries in Europe. After this incident Rammanohar Lohia joined the Indian national congress and established the congress socialist party in the year 1934. He was appointed as a secretary of All India Congress Committee in 1936.
He wrote an article with the name Satyagraha Now which was published in Gandhiji’s Newspaper Harijan. Lohia was arrested 7th june1940 and he was sentenced to two years imprisonment for writing that article. He published and circulated posters, pamphlets on Do or Die during the Quit India Movement in 1942. Along with Aruna Asaf Ali lohia edited the congress party monthly newspaper with the name “Inquilab”.
Death of lohia
After independence of India, He advocated the strategy of non congress in 1963. He got huge success in 1967 and the congress was defeated in nine states by Samyuktha Vidhayak Dal Governments. He remained unmarried throughout his life. He dedicated his entire life to the freedom struggle of this nation. Rammanohar Lohia died on 12th October 1967 in New Delhi.
