
Pulin Behari Das
Jun 16 2022 Indian fighters for freedom Pulin Behari DasPulin Behari Das was a great personality in the Indian history who was a founder and the president of the Dhaka Anushilan Samiti and worked as an Indian revolutionary. As an honour to his contributions and work there is special endowment award which is been named after him Pulin Bihari Das Smriti Padak.
He will be known as the most popular name in the list of the Indian freedom fighter who fought against the British rule for the Independence of India. His contributions will always be remembered.
Life and Education
Pulin Behari Das was born in a Bengali Hindu community and from a middle class family. In the year 1877 he was born in the village of Lonesingh to Naba Kumar Das. Pulin Behari Das father was an advocate in Madaripur where he worked at a sub divisional court.
In 1894 he passed his entrance examination from Faridpur Zilla School. For his college studies he joined the Dhaka college and during the year as a student he started simultaneously working as an laboratory assistant and a demonstrator.
Being interested in physical culture Pulin Behari Das was very good lathial. In the year 1903 he opened his akhara at Tikatuli. He used to train the young men to handle different types of weapons. He even got training in fencing and lathikhela.
Contributions and Activities
Pulin Behari Das was the person who was the founder of the National School of Dhaka which was made as a training facility to raise a great and strong revolutionary force. In this school the students were trained to fight with lathis and wooden swords and later they were given daggers and revolvers.
He was the mastermind behind the Barrah Dacoity which was a sensation that time as it was committed at day time by revolutionaries at the dwelling place of zamindars. This was committed in the district of Dhaka.
In 1908 he was arrested and put in imprisonment as he came out he again started with his revolutionaries activites. He was put in imprisonment in the Montgomery jail where he met many other revolutionaries like him and got a group of people who will work with him against the issues and the problems.
Pulin Behari Das was a person who declined to follow the ideals and philosophies of Mohandas Gandhi for the Non cooperation movement. In 1920 he founded Bharat Sevak Sangh to make his revolutionary activities more prominent.
In 1928 he founded one more samiti which was known as Bangiya Byayam Samiti where he trained young men in swordplay and wrestling. To propagate his ideas of revolutionary views and ides he even published periodicals which was Swaraj and Hak Katha.
Personal Life
After some years Pulin Behari Das successfully married and got 2 daughters and 3 sons. At the age of 72 he died in the year 1949 in the Indian state. His Bangiya Byayam Samiti was taken care by his son in the later stage. The name of his second son was Sourendra Das.
