About Akshardham Temple Delhi
The Akshardham Temple complex in Delhi was opened to the public on November 8, 2005. The Akshardham Temple is one of the most recently built temples in Delhi. It reflects the colorful Hindu religion. The Delhi Akshardham is an imitation of the Akshardham in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.
The temple has been built recently. And it is constructed by Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha or commonly referred to as BAPS. Situated on the Yamuna river banks, the AksharDham Delhi was opened to the public in November 2005. This is the word which comes in mind when we talk of the famous Swaminarayan temple in Delhi, as it is also known.
The temple is built on a similar concept of the temple that is built in Gandhinagar in the state of Gujarat. Approximately 234 ornate pillars, floral motifs, arches, exquisitely carved pavilions, 9 ornate domes, 20 quadrangle shikhars, a spectacular Gajendra Pith (plinth of stone elephants), adorn this architectural wonder. This beautiful structure and masterpiece architecture was built under the support and funding of the Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS).
There are 20,000 statues inside Akshar Dham Mandir of Delhi of India’s great sadhus, devotees, acharyas and divine personas.The temple enshrines 11 ft tall gilded statue of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. The building is constructed entirely from Pink Sandstone and Italian Marble, without any concrete or steel. The intricate carvings, magnanimous structure and the backdrop of River Yamuna, render the temple a masterpiece of art.
Other than the main temple, there are a number of buildings in the complex where you can enjoy cultural and spiritual activities. Other features of the Akshardham Temple are an IMAX theatre, a Swaminarayan temple, and an elaborate musical fountain.If you want to explore the whole temple then you should take your time off for the whole day as it takes at least five hours to visit each and every structure of the temple.
The area around the temple building has been converted into manicured lawns with beautiful water fountains. The Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple is situated on NH 24 near Noida Mor, towards East Delhi. Avoid carrying leather goods, otherwise you have to leave those items at the gate, before entering the temple. The temple is open from 9 am till 6 pm on an average basis.
Entry into the Swaminarayan Akshardham Complex is free, but you have to shed a few rupees if you want to view the exhibitions, or want to go for a boat ride.When you travel to Delhi and visit the Akshardham temple, the architectural delights will just keep you awed. Lord Swaminarayan s statue adorns the main shrine of the mandir.

There are few restrictions with regards to the things you can carry inside the temple. You will not be allowed to carry small wallets or purses, electronic devices and mobile phones.
The ornate external wall (Mandovar) is the only and largest, intricately carved structure with dimensions of 611ft x 31ft that is built in the last 800 years.
You can enter the temple without paying any money but there are exhibitions and show that are held inside the temple. You need to buy tickets for the same.
The Gajendra Pith stretching for 1,070 ft and weighing 3,000 tons, has 148 full-sized elephants, 42 birds and animals, 125 human sculptures!
Excluding Murti Darshan, the other activities will attract fees. Check out the fees that you will be required to pay for each of the activities.
The Akshardham parikrama (circumambulatory path) consists of 1,152 pillars, 145 windows and 154 samvaran shikhars; amounting to a total of 53,956 stones.
