He was born in 24 Parganas district (West Bangal). His parents were Janaki Nath Bose (leading lawyer at Guttack) and Prabhabati Devi. He married to Bibhabati and Subash Chandra Bose, one of the most influencing Indian Freedom Fighters was one of his younger brothers.
Personal life
Sarat Chandra Bose completed his schooling and graduation in Cuttack and Calcutta. Later, in 1911 he went England for further studies as he was called to bar. He returned to India in 1913 and joined Kolkata High Court Bar. He was a successful legal personality and reached top of his profession. He was one of the highest paid legal professionals.
He had a successful legal job profession but he started his career as a political activist under C.R. Das’s leadership. After his death he became a stalwart strength of Congress in Bengal. Nalini Rajan Sarkar, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Toy Tulsi Charan Goswami and Nirmal Chandra Chunder were the individuals Bose later was associated with in close co-operative.
Political life
In 1936, Bose was appointed as the president of Congress in Bengal. From 1936-1947, he served as the member of All India Congress Committee. His younger brother Subash Chandra Bose was one of the greatest Indian Freedom Fighters formed Indian National Army and Sarat Chandra Bose supported it actively.
Though, he was a non-violence believer but he always appreciated revolutionary freedom fighters. He also faced some difference with Congress Party and in 1946 he resigned. He formed a new party named Socialist Republican Party. He was not in the favor of Bengal partition and in co-operation with Sahin Suhrawardy he tried to make Bengal to become an Independent State outside India and Pakistan rather than Individual. But he could not succeed in achieving this target as the political tide was not in his favor.
Bengal protest participation
Sarat Chandra Bose could not prevent Bengal partition but and in 1949 he won West Bengal Legislative Assembly against Congress leader. But an unexpected death ended his political career. The Forward and the Advance are the two successive organs of Congress Politics, Bose was associated with. These were the leading English dailies for several years.
Later in 1946 when he resigned from Congress he started to propagate his political career in English Daily. Sarat Chandra Bose political Career had brought them in contact with several Indian Influencing personalities of that time like Mahatma Gandhi, Motilal Nehru, G.T. Das, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, C. Rajagopallchari, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, and Maulvi Fazlul Huq. He was also associated with some revolutionary leaders and he also provided those financial help and legal assistance.
The only motive of Sarat Chandra Bose was to achieve freedom for India. But, 1947 freedom did not satisfy him completely. On this he said, Complete Independence of India, Independence undiluted and undefiled, free from British or any foreign influence and control, beyond the reach of any power on earth” In Sarat Chandra Bose’s last years of life his dream was to transform India into a Union of autonomous Socialist Republics.
